Rhythm & Blues The Music of the Loom

Rhythm & Blues The Music of the Loom

September 10 – September 29, 2011

Rhythm and Blues: the Music of the Loom will feature a wide variety of items woven in the past two years by the more than 70 Guild members from the greater Fort Worth area, some of whom have been weaving for over 50 years.

“Since our first show in 2005, the technical skill and creativity in weaving of our membership has increased and we now look forward to having an expert weaver and professor of fibers, Amie Adelman, judge a portion of our entries. I think the public will enjoy the variety and expertise displayed in “Rhythm and Blues: the Music of the Loom,” comments Carolyn Gritzmaker, president-elect of Fort Worth Weavers Guild.

Many pieces in the exhibit will be judged by Amie Adelman, Associate Professor of Fibers in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas and an award-winning fiber artist.

According to co-chairs Margaret Arafat and McGee Grundmann, “While some Guild members have entered and received awards in other juried or judged shows, for many this will be their first experience. It promises to be an exciting one.”

There will also be a sale of Guild members’ handwoven pieces on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 2 – 9 p.m., and a reception from 7 – 9 p.m. the same day, in conjunction with Fall Gallery Night activities sponsored by the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association.

Founded in 1955 by five Fort Worth weavers, the Guild’s mission is to sponsor a regular time when fiber artists can come together to share techniques and sources, to mentor new members and weavers, and to promote excellence in the ancient art of weaving.
