Reception: Friday, July 8, 2016; 6 - 9pm
I paint to recognize and authenticate my emotional state through visual sensation. I seek to honestly express raw, personal emotion. -- Dori Besonen
Dori is a self-taught artist. She grew up admiring writers and artists and began drawing portraits from photographs while in her early twenties to bury a broken relationship and provide distraction from a life in disrepair. She quickly adopted pastel as her favorite medium and continued to draw for her personal satisfaction until her early thirties. After the busyness of work and the passing of over twenty years, she turned back to art and took up painting in acrylic and latex, this time, to express her personal pain and loneliness. This is her first public exhibition.
