In sixteenth-century Seville, Spain, a part-time actor, poet and play-wright named Don Miguel de Cervantes has been imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition for an offense against the Church. In their dungeon, the other prisoners accost Cervantes and his manservant with the intent of stealing all their possessions. Desperate to save a manuscript he carries with him, Cervantes demands a "trial" -- and stages, with the help of his devoted servant, his own defense: the story of Don Quixote. Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece, Man of La Mancha is one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history. Powerful, brutal, hilarious, and heartbreaking, it celebrates the perseverance of a man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. Winner of the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Musical in 1966, the unforgettable score includes classic songs like "The Impossible Dream," "I, Don Quixote," "Dulcinea," "I Really Like Him," "Little Bird," and "To Each His Dulcinea."
"...a triumph of creative imagination and stagecraft...it is a thoroughly triumphant enterprise, faithful to the spirit of the Spanish classic." -- New York Post
"Audacious in conception and tasteful in execution...there are charm, gallantry, and delicacy of spirit in the reincarnation of Don Quixote." -- New York Times
"The best musical of the season."-- Cue Magazine
