January 4 – February 20, 2019
RECEPTION: Friday, January 4, 2019
The legend of a cowboy starts with the foundational cow herd, after all a cowboy without
a cow is just a boy. This exhibition is dedicated to the animals that helped make the
cowboys legendary, and the west wild.
Longhorn cattle built a whole legacy in Texas and throughout North America. These
cattle are wiley and cunning. Their resilience is renown, and their beauty is unparalleled.
Between the Longhorn and the indigenous Bison species the West truly was wild. The
need for tough men to learn to work and wrangle these great herds gave rise to the epic
larger than life cowboy. I seek to honor the tradition and rugged charm of the beautiful
beasts that created the legendary cowboy through my artwork, carvings done on the
actual skulls and horns of these famous bovine.
