Artist’s Statement
Imagination and feeling create art
forming with the hands what is in the heart.
A memory, emotion, hope, or dream
colors the spirit…things are seldom as they seem.
An image begins with a glimmer of thought;
then it grows and merges until what is wrought
Is something that has a life of its own,
And the artist becomes its helper on loan.
Award-winning artist and poet Jessica Ray is known for her striking paintings, sculpture, and poetry. Intricately designed and detailed, her mixed media paintings and sculptures capture expressions that touch the human heart.
Mother and child, celestial/astronomical renderings, and nature are among the subjects this native Texan has chosen to interpret since beginning her professional career in art. Ray believes that her work is a way for people to better understand how we are connected to one another. “If my work can make people think about our relationships to each other and the world around us, then maybe we will feel compelled to protect and cherish them.”- Jessica Ray
Ray has received numerous awards for her work, some of which are in private collections, museums, and hospitals.
After earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees and teaching English and journalism in Dallas and Fort Worth Schools, Ray began her art career with studies at Southern Methodist University. The artist’s biography can be found in Marquis’ Who’s Who of American Women; The Weiler House Fine Art Gallery, in Fort Worth is representing her work. Jessica Ray has a daughter, Elizabeth Williams, who is also an artist.
