About the Exhibit:

A collection of inspirational images of Grand Canyon National Park and beyond, created by renowned photographer and former Artist-in-Residence, Adam Schallau. You are invited to share in his visual journey from the canyon's rim to its inner gorge, where you'll discover the mighty Colorado River. His mission is to capture and reveal the spirit, energy, drama, and light that is Grand Canyon.

About the Artist:

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1974, his family soon moved to the plains of Iowa, before coming home to the Hill Country of Texas. Adam and his wife, Sally, are currently living in Taos, New Mexico with their three cats and their dog, Ouray. In Taos they operate their photography business which includes photography workshops and private photo tours of Grand Canyon National Park, Taos & Santa Fe, and the Bisti Wilderness. They also create limited-edition fine-art prints of Schallau’s collection of Southwestern scenes.

Schallau’s photography has appeared in calendar’s, magazines, and travel publications & guides including Photographing the Southwest – A guide to the natural landmarks of Colorado & New Mexico, iFotoGuide: Grand Canyon, CNN, New Mexico Magazine, Barnes & Noble wildflower calendars and Sunset Magazine. His work has been exhibited in many places including the Colorado State Capitol, Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve, and Grand Canyon National Park where it is part of the park’s permanent art collection. At the park's Desert View Visitor Center, a 4 foot tall print of his photograph titled Sunset at the Watchtower greets visitors as they enter the building.

Schallau has received numerous awards and accolades for his photography. He was selected as a winner in the National Wildlife Magazine 2005 photo contest and he took top place in New Mexico Magazine’s 2007 photo contest. Schallau is also a recipient of the Luminous Landscape Endowment and he was the official photographer of the 25th Annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow. Much of this has also lead to sponsorships with several of the leading companies in the photographic imaging industry including Gitzo, Vortex Media and Lowepro.

From the Artist:

As a photographer my goal is to capture the spirit of the American West. From the deserts and canyons of the Colorado Plateau, to the Pueblos of the Rio Grande and to the Rocky Mountains. I'm inspired by the land, the light, and the people. It's through my images that I hope to inspire others to enjoy and appreciate the gift of our parks, monuments, and public lands.
