Art in the Metroplex
October 7 - 29, 2016
Reception & Juror's Talk: October 7, 2016; 6 - 9pm
A juried show of artists from the counties of, and surrounding the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A tradition in the area since 1983, the show was founded by a group of artists including Beth Lea Clardy, in collaboration with Texas Christian University Art Department faculty and staff. In 2014, the show was moved to the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.
This year’s Juror, Annette DiMeo Carlozzi, is an independent curator and arts writer based in Austin, recently retired from the Blanton Museum of Art at UT-Austin, and has been commissioned to write a forthcoming volume on the Texas art scene for the UT Press initiative, “The Texas Bookshelf.” Prior to joining the Blanton, Carlozzi served as Visual Arts Producer for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta. Earlier, she served as Executive Director of the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans; Director of the Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, CO; and Senior Curator of Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, TX (now The Contemporary Austin). Carlozzi has taught graduate Studio Art seminars from a curatorial perspective both at the Dept. of Art & Art History, UT-Austin and at the University of North Texas’s College of Art & Design. She is widely published and has written dozens of articles and exhibition catalogs to accompany the more than 60 exhibitions of contemporary art that she has curated to date. Carlozzi will be giving a juror’s talk on October 7, 2016, in the gallery, at 7pm, and awards will be given after the talk.
