Adelante

Puro Raza Bicycle and Pedal Car Show

November 13 – December 12, 2020

Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation Gallery

Adelante embodies the passion of Chicano lowrider culture in the form of chromed-out bicycles and candy painted pedal cars from yesteryear. Once considered a subculture of Latinx barrios across the US, lowriding has cruised its way into the global mainstream. The exhibit features elaborately engineered bicycles and pedal car installations that reflect our Latinx neighborhoods’ unique identities and histories. These custom creations are often creative outlets that create social capital by building stronger bonds between families and friends. Adelante (which means “to move forward”) aims to democratize space by providing a platform for all audiences to enjoy these custom works of art on wheels.
