The Fort Worth Community Arts Center, a program of the Arts Council of Fort Worth, is accepting submissions for the 2021 Original Works Series. Now in its second year, the Original Works Series program creates opportunities for new and emerging playwrights to showcase their work.

All eligible scripts will receive a live reading in 2021 and a panel of theatre professionals will select one submission to become a fully staged production at the Arts Center in November 2021, featuring a blend of Equity and Non-Equity performers (this performance, along with all staged performances produced by The Arts Center Presents allows actors who are not a member of the Actors Equity Association to work towards membership to that organization, which helps its members earn a sustainable income from performing). The selected playwright will receive a $500 royalty and the opportunity to take part in the work’s development and premiere production.

Rules and guidelines for the 2021 Original Work Series:

· Submissions must be an original, full-length play that is unpublished.

· Submit one, one-sided hard copy.

· Submissions must begin with a title page that includes the work’s name, the playwright’s name, address, telephone number, and email.

· The manuscript must be typed in 12-point type with numbered pages.

· Submission must be written in the English language.

· Include a character list and scene breakdown, if applicable.

· The cast for the play must be limited to 10 performers.

· The script may have more than one author.

· Playwright(s) will include a brief biography.

Playwrights will be notified by email and a list of selected readings will be published on our website. There will be no written or oral critique given on scripts submitted.

There is a $15 entry fee, which must be paid via check or money order and included with the submission. Dramatists Guild members pay $10. Any script submitted without the entry fee will not be considered. Please make checks payable to Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

All submissions must be postmarked by October 31, 2020. All submissions will receive a live reading based on the 2021 calendar of availability and the public gathering restrictions given by the City of Fort Worth and the Centers for Disease Control.

Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for receipt of the manuscript to be acknowledged. Submissions should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the play to be returned, should it not be selected for the season. Unselected submissions without an envelope will be recycled. Do not send the only copy of a manuscript. All scripts will be handled with care, but The Arts Center will not be responsible for any loss or damage to your manuscript.

Submissions that have been previously produced or published will not be accepted. A play that is scheduled for professional production at the time of submission is considered ineligible.

Please send the manuscript to:
