As I small child I traveled with my parents on a camping trip from Alabama to visit grandparents in Texas and then out to Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. I can still recall the feeling of pure awe when we were the other side of Dallas/Fort Worth and the horizon opened up to mythic proportions.

Growing up in Alabama surrounded by a dense thicket of vines and woods this feeling of open flat prairie and the huge expanse of sky felt otherworldly.

I was fascinated by the thunderstorms so far away, and the constantly changing light show of sunset.

The paintings for this show attempt to convey that feeling of joy and appreciation for the beauty that nature is unveiling to us every day. – Jamie Kirkland
