East Meets West

by Vicki Owen

Vicki Owen uses a hot plate and encaustic wax to investigate how the wax ebbs and flows to create a composition with brilliant color and organic forms. In her work Ms. Owen does not try to convey a preconceived message but invites the viewer to develop his own meaning or message.

A native of Tulsa, Okla. Ms. Owen studied art at the University of Tulsa and University of Texas at Arlington as well as The Belles Artes in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. In addition, she has traveled extensively in Central and South America and Europe, adding to her studies.

Ms. Owen’s work, through the medium of oils, pastels, or encaustics, is characterized by her use of brilliant color, blending technique, and rich textural surfaces. Her subjects range from architectural to sheer whimsy.

Ms. Owen has had several one-woman shows in Tulsa, and group shows in Ft. Worth. She taught art at Myers School of Fine Arts in Tulsa for eight years as well as drawing at Cook Children’s Hospital Teen Dialysis unit.
