Presented by Historic Fort Worth Inc.

The eighth annual Preservation is the Art of the City® art show and sale will be open to the public from September 10 through 25 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy Street in the heart of the Fort Worth Cultural District.  More than 200 works of art by regional artists will be exhibited, and every work is for sale at prices ranging from $100 to $10,000+.

Preservation is the Art of the City® promotes and supports local studio artists and historic preservation in Fort Worth, Texas.  The 50 participating artists, who work in a broad range of media, styles and subject matters, receive 65% of the purchase price of their sold artwork. At least 10 new artists are introduced each year, and a jury assures high quality while maintaining a balance of established and young, emerging artists.

The Featured Artwork by Jim Woodson will appear on the event program provided to all visitors, the invitation to the Reception with the Artists, and event advertising.  Sited just across from the gallery entrance, this monumental oil painting will be the first thing most visitors notice.  Don’t miss the special preservation-themed category, “Stories of the City”.  Popular with both artists and buyers, these works range from realistic depictions of well-loved Fort Worth landmarks to wildly abstracted interpretations of the theme.  Another special section is composed entirely of small artworks, which tend to have proportionately smaller prices but are just as beautiful as their larger counterparts.

On Thursday, September 9 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, Preservation is the Art of the City® will open with the Reception with the Artists, the only opportunity to preview and purchase the art before the art show opens to the public.  Reservations are $100 per person/$75 for HFW members and include valet parking.

Promptly at 6:30 p.m., the Honorary Co-Chairs, sculptor Kathy Webster and Charlie Webster, Board Chairman of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, will be recognized.  Sponsored cash awards for outstanding artworks, selected by the 2010 guest juror Mary Burke, Director of Gallery Programs and Tours, Sid Richardson Museum, will be presented to the winning artists.  The festive evening continues with art sales, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres until 9:30 p.m.
